International Jazz Day
In 2011, UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) proclaimed May 30th as International Jazz Day, to “raise awareness of the virtues of jazz as an educational tool, and a force for empathy, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people”. Â
Jazzday.com offers live and online events and concerts to celebrate this day, as well as an educational library “as an opportunity to learn more about the empowering history and legacy of jazz music”.Â
On April 30 each year, International Jazz Day celebrates the history, culture and impact of jazz music worldwide. Shaping the cultural identity of multiple communities, jazz has been a source of inspiration for many artists and musicians.
To teach students jazz music is to help preserve and promote the cultural significance of jazz history and the effects it has on multiple generations and communities,
On this International Jazz Day, we encourage you and your students to celebrate jazz as an artistic expression and cultural form. Let’s motivate the next generation to have an even greater appreciation of this integral part of musical tradition.Â
